For the third year running, Zwick organised an international Academia Day and Science Award ceremony which was hosted by the Technical University Munich.

Technical presentations this year focused on the 'Determination of the mechanical properties of metallic lightweight materials and composites,' with attendees also having an opportunity to visit the extensive University laboratories or the nearby FRM ll nuclear research facility in Garching. One of the highlights of the day was the official presentation by Dr Jan Stefan Roell, of the 2011 Science Awards and the presentation of the Paul Roell Medal to the overall winner. The winners of the 2011 Science Awards were invited to attend the Academia Day as guests of Zwick Roell. If you have published an interesting scientific paper related to materials testing, why not consider entering for the 2012 Zwick Science Award. Zwick rewards the most innovative use of a materials testing machine or apparatus for ground-breaking research. Entry deadline is 30th November 2012 and prizes range from €5,000 and the Paul Roell Medal for 1st place, €2,000 for 2nd place and €1000 for 3rd place.
