Composites UK held its third annual charity awards dinner at The Midland Hotel, Manchester recently to recognise the achievements in personnel and training in the UK composites industry.

“It’s important that we shout about our successes as an industry and celebrate what we have achieved year on year,” claimed the association’s secretary, Dr Sue Halliwell. “Our awards showcase individuals and companies who go the extra mile to develop the skills needed to highlight the UK as major player in the sector.” The four awards and their winners were: Health, Safety and Environment Initiative of the Year, won by Composites Fibreglass Mouldings; Trainee/Apprentice of the Year, won by Chris Thomson, AgustaWestland; Outstanding Employee of the Year, won by: Simon Haslam, Amber Composites; Employer of the Year Supporting Training or Apprenticeships, won by URT Group. The winners received a year’s free membership to Composites UK, trophy, certificate and £250 prize money for the trainee and employee award winners. The awards dinner will now move to coincide with the Composites Engineering Show and will take place on 7th November at the Crowne Plaza, NEC Birmingham. www.compositesuk.co.uk
