Editor's comment: Time to take centre stage

The stage awaits, and unless you’ve had your head in the sand for the past few months it won’t have escaped your attention that the Advanced Engineering show is almost upon us.

The ‘Heinz 57’ of engineering tradeshows rolls into the Birmingham NEC this November to offer visitors a little bit of a lot of different manufacturing-based technologies. Show organisers, Easyfairs will once again be looking to consolidate its position in creating opportunities that address technologies, processes and supply chain efficiencies that help keep UK plc at the forefront of manufacturing technology.

So, what’s on the agenda for this year’s event? According to Easyfairs, visitors can learn more about what digitalisation means for the industry, the latest innovations in materials and how composites are helping to create a greener, more sustainable future. In addition, Composites UK’s annual Awards Dinner will be held on the first evening of the show at the nearby National Motorcycle Museum. Elsewhere, PRF Composites will be hosting a celebratory reception on the first day to mark its 40 years in the industry.

One of the most important features of the tradeshows I attend is the positive publicity that surrounds business contracts and new equipment orders, so why not shout about them? Easyfairs and the UK’s composites manufacturing industry will be keen to ensure that similar kinds of lucrative deals remain a regularly occurrence at the show.

As the old saying goes, we all get fifteen minutes of fame. Good luck to the show organisers and exhibitors at the event. Hopefully, our industry will make the most of its showtime. Meanwhile, put the 2-3 November in your diary and on behalf of Composites in Manufacturing magazine, we hope to meet you on our stand (U164) during this pivotal week in the UK’s calendar.

Editor's comment: Weather with you

My work office feels unusually cold. As I type this, the BBC weather says it’s 10˚C outside. Hmm, is that typical for the end of April? Anyway, our landlord has deemed that with Spring now in the air, it’s time to turn off the heating and save money. This presents a challenge typing when I can’t feel my fingers.
