This year the focus will be on how TFP’s Optiveil nonwovens deliver quality surface finishes, with examples from the sporting goods industry displayed on stand 423 in hall 1.
Optiveil nonwovens provide an effective surface finish solution for composites, with proven results in applications from the aerospace, automotive, sporting goods, marine, energy and industrial sectors.
The majority of uses for Optiveil are proprietary, but this year at China Composites Expo TFP will exhibit some new examples of its veil in action. These parts include a composite bicycle frame, which demonstrates how Optiveil provides both a superior surface finish and a means of improving resin flow in the structure. This dual function is characteristic of TFP’s nonwovens which can offer a range of benefits simultaneously; including fracture toughness, EMI shielding, electrical conductivity, galvanic corrosion prevention, and corrosion and abrasion resistance.
Optiveil is said to be the ideal candidate for use as a surfacing veil, producing a high quality resin rich surface finish with micro crack suppression and minimum microporosity. It is available in range of fibre types to enable both a variety of aesthetic finishes and CTE matching, and boasts an exceptionally even fibre distribution to ensure uniform resin uptake. In addition, the porous structure of the veil provides the benefit of enhanced resin flow, aiding resin distribution in the part without the need for additional flow media. Ultimately, this can eliminate the need for additional flow media and help to optimize composite production times and yields.
