RSC to use Corex for its set design

Corex-Honeycomb has announced that its polypropylene honeycomb has been purchased by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) for use in its touring productions.

The Cambridgeshire-based manufacturer has provided fleece covered polypropylene honeycomb which will be used in the leading theatre company’s set design. Selected for their strong and lightweight properties, the panels will form a key part of the staging when Thomas Middleton’s comedy ‘It’s a Mad World My Masters’ opens in Stratford upon Avon’s Swan Theatre later this year. The fleece covered polypropylene honeycomb was chosen by the RSC due to its strength and usability. Although aluminium honeycomb, which is also supplied by Corex, was considered, the polypropylene material with its fleece lamination offers the potential to be glued to timber, therefore providing the finish required. The Corex material used in the design of the set features 8mm cells in a structure with a density of 60kg/m3. The material is resistant to both media and corrosion, and as a result of its thermoplastic properties, can be cut into desired shapes. www.corex-honeycomb.com
