Experience counts at SGS's new technical centre

SGS Carbide Tool has appointed Barry Ward to the recently created role of internal technical manager.

To coincide with the move to a new 25,000ft2 European headquarters, which offers much greater manufacturing capacity and also a new technical centre, Previously employed as one of Hurco Machine Tool’s leading application engineers, Ward joins SGS at a key point during the company’s planned growth. Applying the very latest CADCAM software and machining strategies, he will be responsible for proving the capabilities of the advanced cutting tool technology available from SGS. “As well as for new customers, there is an opportunity with many of our existing customers to improve cycle times,” he stated. “Now we have the equipment and knowledge to be able to prove our products, without causing any disruption to the customer’s production. We will not have to wait for a chance at the customers’ facilities we can create a ‘duplicate’ production environment to prove our cutting tool technology and data.” With technical partners, such as Delcam, providing exceptional support, getting the technical centre up and running efficiently is Ward’s key focus. “The new building shows how SGS is investing in the UK and Europe. Using our products effectively we want to satisfy our customers’ demands to cut cycle times and improve their productivity,” he added. “And, I am already looking to expand the capabilities of the technical centre, with additional technical partnership to help us deliver on our promise.” www.sgstool.com
