Seco Tools (UK) will hold a ‘Machining Carbon Composites’ awareness and best practice seminar on Wednesday 16th May at its technical centre in Alcester.
The free one day event, featuring keynote presentations from industry and academic experts as well as a number of machining demonstrations, is aimed at those precision manufacturers who already machine composites, but who want to do it better and more efficiently. It will also inform manufacturers of the latest developments.
Specific topics to be covered include machining high precision aerospace components; the challenges faced and strategies to employ when machining unidrectional carbon lay-ups; and the relative merits of PCD tools and diamond coated tungsten carbide tools when machining composites.
Places are limited and are provided on a first come – first served basis. Manufacturers wishing to attend can register online at www.secotools.com/uk/composites.
Mike Fleming, Seco’s technical and marketing manager said: “Carbon composites are used everywhere, but the widespread use of carbon composites creates issues for manufacturers looking to machine these materials effectively and efficiently.
“These challenges can be overcome by having a better understanding of the materials, including their unique properties and characteristics; gaining a greater appreciation of their use and application (actual and potential) in advanced manufacturing industries and sectors; and by acquiring more knowledge, and having access to, the latest thinking and best practice concerning the most effective and appropriate machining and tooling strategies to use.
“Our one day seminar has been designed to cover all these issues and much more. See you there.”
