In a Q&A session, Composites in Manufacturing spoke to Zwick’s area sales manager South, James King at the recent Advanced Engineering 2017 show to hear more about the company’s testing equipment.

Q: Can you tell us a more about Zwick’s machines?

What we have on display here at present is our hardness testing machine, i.e. to perform Rockwell testing for example and our tensile testing equipment. A lot of people use it for tensile, compression or flexural testing on many different ranges of samples from many different industries, such as composites, metals, plastics and automotive. The Advanced Engineering show has been brilliant for us, because of all these different industries that are represented here.

Q: There must be a wide range of equipment for different test applications?

We have a very large portfolio of testing equipment now and we cover a lot of the different ranges to suit the various industries.

Q: What challenges do composite materials pose for testing equipment?

The composites industry is a very strong market that we have noticed is growing over the last five to ten years, and it is still growing stronger and stronger. We’ve had to adapt our testing machines so that we get a better resolution on machines we sell to test composites.

Q: How has the Advanced Engineering show been for you?

It has been brilliant for us, and we have noticed over the two days that we have had a lot of interest on and around our stand.
