CMS and Caracol announce large format 3D printing collaboration

CMS and Caracol, leading Italian companies in advanced manufacturing, have officially announced their collaboration at JEC World Paris this week.

With this collaboration the companies aim to promote the development of the large format 3D printing market globally through commercial synergies and technological development.

CMS, part of Scm Group, is a global leader in the production of technologies for the processing of composite materials and partner of strategic companies in various sectors, such as aerospace, automotive, and marine. The company produces machines and system to process different materials, such as CNC multi-axis machining centres, thermoforming machines, and waterjet cutting systems. Since 2018, the company begun its journey in the additive manufacturing sector with CMS Kreator, an exclusive Large Format Additive Manufacturing solution. CMS’s offering is broad and includes both hybrid machines, that combine additive technology with milling, as well as only printing machines. The decade-long experience CMS has in the processing of composite materials, guarantees performing solutions and high technological value.

Caracol is a leading company in the world of robotic large-format 3D printing. Established as a startup at the end of 2017, the company is now an international scale-up that has developed an integrated hardware and software platform for large-scale additive manufacturing: Heron AM. This platform works with polymers and composites to produce advanced industrial components for several sectors: aerospace, marine, automotive, design, architecture, and a lot more.

Together the two companies aim to deliver to clients the benefits of additive manufacturing on large scale components, by joining the technical know-how developed on different movement supports: on the one hand robotics with 6+ axes, and on the other 5-axis centres.

Thanks to this commercial collaboration between the two companies, it will be possible to accelerate technological developments and, most of all, support end-user’s adoption of LFAM technologies, by continuing to find new applications where large format 3D printing can deliver benefits in terms of lead-time, costs, and sustainability.
