With the use of composites in sectors such as aerospace, automotive and marine creating demand for new inspection techniques, visitors can see the latest developments at Materials Testing 2019 from 3-5 September in Telford.

The biennial event, which is free to attend, is the world’s most comprehensive exhibition of non-destructive testing (NDT), condition monitoring and diagnostic technologies and will feature over 70 exhibitors plus a wide range of seminars and workshops.

Amongst those taking part is the UK Research Centre for NDE (RCNDE), which pioneers new techniques and whose Director, Professor Robert Smith, has authored reports on NDT requirements for composite inspection in the aerospace, automotive and marine sectors.

He says: “NDT increases confidence in structural design, allowing lighter-weight structures, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. NDT will be the reason why greener air, land and sea travel will be possible and affordable in the future.”

Composite inspection will also be a key theme at the NDT 2019 conference, which runs alongside the exhibition and which will feature a series of presentations on Tuesday 3 September. They will include high-speed inspection of UD CFRP composites, inspecting glass fibre composite plates with a bonded honeycomb core, and developing a more detailed knowledge base for composite inspection.

Materials Testing 2019 is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 September and from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Thursday 5 September and takes place at the International Centre in Telford.
