Jones, best known for his erotic sculptures, approached Andy Dance, head of the new composites R&D department at Formaplex, to work on the sculpture. “It’s great to work with Allen,” commented Dance. “It’s always an exciting and challenging experience and this high-profile project perfectly showcases the out of autoclave expertise and resources we have at Formaplex.” The sculpture is due to go on sale at Christie’s in October as part of an auction of works that capture the extraordinary appeal of Kate Moss. Of the sculpture, Jones commented: “For some time, I have made sculptures that look like women. Here was an opportunity to make a particular woman look like my sculpture.” Dance has a high profile background in composites concept and build, and has worked with Jones on a number of projects. “We surfaced the rough sculpture, took moulds, made components and painted them – all in strict accordance with Allen’s instructions,” explained Dance. “Working for Allen is exacting, but it’s what we enjoy. Formaplex has invested a lot in the new composites R&D department and paint workshop, and this project shows exactly what we’re capable of.” www.formaplex.com
