Flying the Union Jack through events in 2022

The second International Composites Summit take place on 21–22 September in London
The second International Composites Summit take place on 21–22 September in London

Anticipation is building for the return of JEC World in 2022, following a two-year break for the face-to-face exhibition due to Covid-19.

Composites UK is particularly looking forward to it as it will be the Association’s first as organisers of the UK Pavilion. Comprising 22 exhibitor pods filled with UK based companies, the 154m2 Pavilion will fly the flag for the best of our country’s SMEs in hall 6, stand R52, over the three days of the show held in Paris 3–5 May.

The Association was delighted to be given the role of stand organisers, having been granted the responsibility from the Department for International Trade, who remain a supporter of the stand. Also partnering are Welsh Government, who will be bringing six Welsh companies with them; Invest Bristol and Bath, who have four exhibitor pods allocated for companies from their region; and the National Composites Centre, who take a portion of the stand to showcase their capabilities and processes. Midlands Engine are also collaborating with us and will sponsor the drinks reception taking place on the stand on Wednesday 4th May at 2pm.

Pod exhibitors include Airbond, Aro PR & Marketing, Bindatex, Composites Evolution, Heraeus Noblelight, Hypetex, MIDAS, Oxford Advanced Surfaces, Plyable, R-Tech Services, STRUCTeam, Surface Generation and Tatham Aerospace, with more to be announced at the time of writing.

This year will also see the second International Composites Summit (ICS) take place on 21–22 September in London.

Last year, the inaugural ICS relaunched business opportunities for the composites industry, as we came out of lockdown and the summer break, as one of the first face-to-face events to take place for a number of months. Over 600 people attended each day of the event, visiting 46 exhibitors, a product display area featuring innovative components and 11 full and standing forum sessions where speakers included GKN Aerospace, Ford, McLaren, Jaguar Land Rover and Vertical Aerospace to name a few.

The event, which Composites UK co-organises with Fluency Marketing, focuses on reinventing the global supply chain for composites, bringing together companies concentrating on worldwide opportunities for sales and growth.

The appetite from the composites industry for this new exhibition has been high and the amount of stand sold at present makes ICS 2022 already bigger than last year with several months to go.

As always, Composites UK has an array of conferences and showcases planned throughout the year, focusing on topics such as hydrogen and renewables. The Association will also hold Recomp in the latter portion of the year. Recomp looks at the recycling and reuse of fibre polymer composites and feeds into the Associations strategy sustainability strategy for the UK composites industry. The view is to make this event biennial following its success online in 2020 – hopefully the 2022 edition will go head as a face-to-face.

The Association’s Awards Dinner is already booked to take place on 2nd November, alongside the Advanced Engineering Show in Birmingham, and new for 2022 is Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Composites in Construction (FPCC) – another event which is co-organised with Fluency Marketing – scheduled for early September.

The Association’s online programme of events will also continue as one-hour technical sessions throughout the year, with a view to run any of the proposed face-to-face events online too where appropriate if further pandemic restrictions come into force.

We look forward to the coming year and seeing you face-to-face or online.
