DSM launches Daron 220 resin for high speed pultrusion

DSM has introduced a new resin system designated Daron 220 that helps pultrusion companies to make profiles and structures at high speed and with process robustness.

This new product can be easily tuned for a variety of applications, and used as single resin or as part of a two-component system. Because of its low viscosity, glass fibre impregnation is straightforward. This allows making components with great strength, both with glass and carbon fibre. Moreover, the parts can demonstrate an excellent heat resistance. When used as part of a two-component system the glass transition temperature of the resin can be as high as 220°C, way above the glass transition temperature of conventional vinyl ester resins. The chemistry of Daron 220 enables running pultrusion lines at much higher speed versus traditional high heat epoxy resins. The Daron 220 resin can give excellent properties both with glass and with carbon fibres. “DSM is known for its innovative power delivering composite solutions that can improve end-use performance,” commented Robert Puyenbroek, CTO of DSM Composite Resins. “While helping our direct customers to better run their operation, these material systems clearly enable end-customers to more frequently use composites in their markets.” www.dsm.com
