Dark Matter unveils ‘Step Sanding Tool Kit' launch event

Dark Matter Composites has announced the launch of its 'Step Sanding Tool Kit'.

Dark Matter Composites has announced the launch of its ‘Step Sanding Tool Kit’. The launch event will take place on Wednesday 27th March at the UK’s National Composites Centre, with morning and afternoon sessions. The ‘Step Sanding Tool Kit’ has been designed to be a simple and cost effective aid to preparing step sanded repair surfaces much quicker than preparing a typical scarfed repair surface, typically in the order of 50-75% timesaving. This tool kit brings high end step sanded repairs into the realms of standard repair practices at reduced cost. The tool kit consists of a modified Dynabrade air router combined with diamond surface planning heads and flexible jigs that can produce step sanded repair surfaces on parts with double curvature. When the equipment is paired with an extractor - also available from Dark Matter Composites, the on-tool extraction is very effective at removing the dust generated at point of source, to the extent that it eliminates the need for containment curtains and dust masks during the preparation activity. “With the ever increasing use of composites for structural applications across industry sectors, composite repair processes are now coming under increased scrutiny,” stated Dark Matter Composites’ managing director, Rodney Hansen. “As part of our continual course updating strategy at Dark Matter Composites, we have fully reviewed composite repairs as ‘controlled processes’ that go beyond just removing and replacing damaged material. Dust generation and effective capture at point of source are also key parts of these activities. Having fully reviewed and trialled the equipment available for this type of repair, we very quickly came to the conclusion that there was a better solution that could be adopted.” Dark Matter’s ‘Step Sanding Tool Kit’ will be available to buy following the launch event and attendees will be entitled to a special introductory offer.
