Allan Curtis of Design and Display Structures has been announced as the new chair of the Composites UK Construction Sector Group. The announcement comes after the group’s last meeting on the 3rd December 2019.

Curtis brings more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, initially in high end curtain walling systems before transferring his skills over to glass reinforced polymer (GRP) cladding in 1994. He is currently owner and director of Design & Display Structures, which he has developed to become widely recognised as a market leader in providing bespoke ‘design and build’ package solutions.

Curtis said of his new role: “I am delighted to receive this opportunity to work alongside industry colleagues to raise awareness of the wide range of benefits composites can offer to construction projects, end clients and the professionals working within it. Attractive offsite modular solutions are key factors to successful fast track projects and the precise control one can exercise over manufacture in terms of minimising materials employed and volume of waste products puts us firmly at the forefront of shaping future building solutions and tackling sustainability concerns.”

He takes over the role from James Henderson of Atkins, who now chairs the Composites Leadership Forum’s (CLF) construction group.

Henderson commented: “Since its establishment in 2015 it has been a pleasure to lead and chair the Composites UK Construction Sector Group, with one of our key successes during this period being the publication of CIRIA Report C779 – FRP Bridge: Guidance for Designers. It is my pleasure to now hand over the reins of this group to Allan who I am sure will bring a new perspective and focus going forward. In the transition period I will support Allan and the wider group in my position with the Composites Leadership Forum, where I will lobby for support, drive collaboration and steer our industry to ensure we meet and exceed the growth targets we have discussed in the 2016 FRP composites strategy document.”
