All-composite 53m trimaran on display at 26th Monaco Yacht Show

Gurit, specialist in advanced composite engineering and materials, has congratulated Latitude Yachts on the successful completion of the first two “Galaxy” 53m Trimarans.

The 26th Monaco Yacht Show, 28th September to 1st October 2016, is the first international boat show where one of the two sister ships, Galaxy of Happiness, will be open to the sailing and superyacht community to tour the boat.

Designed by Coste Design & Partners, “Galaxy” and “Galaxy of Happiness” have been built in a record time of only 2.5 years. Launched in Riga, Latvia, in May 2016, the two Trimarans perform with excellence, reaching their designed top speed of 30 knots as well as top level comfort and technology.

Galaxy and Galaxy of Happiness have been built in parallel at the Latitude yard in Riga, Latvia. The yard covered all composite production, systems and engine installations as well as interior and outer finishing. The two all-composite sister trimarans were built from Gurit Sprint prepreg material moulded in glass and carbon composites and featuring Corecell M foam.

Gurit Corecell provides a combination of high shear strength with low density, high elongation, high temperature resistance and low resin uptake. The material is an effective choice in slamming area and has also been used in the superstructure, hull and multiple decks. For the secondary bonding, Gurit Ampreg 22 and Spabond 340LV were used.

Valdis Irbe, chairman of the board and CEO of Latitude Yachts, commented: "Taking Gurit on board for the entire composite material package supply and process support was a perfect decision and very much helped us achieving such a great result. Gurit´s team was always there when needed and delivered beyond expectations."
